November 2025 Updates
- 40th Street Multimodal Project
- The City of Emeryville has released the draft CEQA Environmental Document for the 40th Street Multimodal Project and has formally opened a 45-day public review and comment period.
- A Notice of Intent to Adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) has been issued for the project. This notice and the complete draft IS/MND are now available for public review.
- The public comment period begins on November 24, 2025, and will conclude on January 7, 2026.
- Interested parties and public agencies are invited to submit written comments on the document during this time. The proposed IS/MND is available for review at the following locations:
- The City has completed and released a comprehensive update to the traffic analysis for the 40th Street Multimodal Project. The updated Technical Memorandum(PDF, 21MB)
now includes a 12-year safety history, and a new Truck Activity Analysis Memo(PDF, 13MB)
provides data-driven recommendations for truck routing. Both documents and other project information are now available for public review on the project website at https://fp.mysocialpinpoint.com/40thstreetmultimodal. This marks a key milestone as the project moves into the final approval stages before construction begins in mid-2026.
- 2024 Sustainable Streetscapes Project
- Urban Tree Planting Program
- Over 125 trees are to be planted citywide beginning in November 2025. 100 of these trees are located in the Marina Park at the west end of Powell Street where many trees fell during a 2023 Wind Storm.

What We Do
Engineering Services: Our Engineering division is at the forefront of building a better Emeryville. We establish and maintain the city's design and construction standards, ensuring that all new development is safe, durable, and meets the needs of our community. We oversee the city's Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which is a multi-year plan for upgrading and modernizing our public infrastructure. From concept to completion, we manage the design, bidding, and construction of a wide range of projects.
Maintenance & Operations: The Maintenance & Operations division is the backbone of the Public Works Department, working every day to keep Emeryville safe, clean, and beautiful. Our crews are responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of our city's physical assets which include public facilities, parks, and other infrastructure.
Essential Infrastructure: Managing what’s unseen is critical to the daily function and environmental health of Emeryville. Our team is responsible for the complex network of underground pipes that make up our sanitary sewer and storm drain systems.
Environmental Services: Our Environmental Services team is dedicated to protecting and enhancing Emeryville's natural resources. We lead the city's sustainability initiatives, including climate action planning and sea level rise adaptation. We also manage a variety of programs aimed at reducing waste, conserving water, and improving the health of our local ecosystem.
Traffic & Transportation: Public Works is focused on ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the city. We manage the city's 35 traffic signals, over 1,900 streetlights, and regional transportation planning efforts, with a focus on creating a multimodal transportation network that is accessible to all.
