Disaster Preparedness

The City of Emeryville is vulnerable to a wide range of disasters, including earthquakes, fires, train derailments, tsunamis, chemical spills, and even airplane accidents. To ensure community safety, City staff have been actively preparing for these potential emergencies.

In the event of a major incident, the City may activate its Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at Fire Station No. 35 at 6303 Hollis Street. The EOC is staffed by trained City personnel who coordinate response and recovery efforts using the Incident Command System (ICS).

The City has developed an Emergency Operations Plan to guide its response and it's important for your household to have one too. During a large-scale disaster, public resources will be strained, and assistance may be delayed for 72 hours or longer. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and ensure their families are prepared.

Preparedness brochures are available in the lobby at City Hall. Additional resources can be found on the Alameda County Disaster Preparedness website.

Disaster Debris Management Plan (DDMP)

The Disaster Debris Management Plan (DDMP) provides guidance for the City’s Public Works Department in responding to debris-generating events that exceed local capacity or result from a federally declared disaster. The plan is intended to minimize costs associated with debris management while supporting effective operations before, during, and after such events.
