Responsibilities

The City Attorney is retained by the City Council to act as the legal adviser and administrator of the legal affairs of the City and the Successor Agency.

The City Attorney provides legal advice on matters of law pertaining to official activities for:

  • City Council
  • Successor Agency
  • Planning Commission
  • City Manager
  • City Staff

Legal Advice for Citizens

The City Attorney does not provide legal advice to citizens, nor does it prosecute criminal activity. For information about criminal matters, contact the District Attorney's Office at 510-272-6222.

Claims Against the City

If a person or entity desires to pursue a claim against the City a claim form must be completed, signed and sent to the City Attorney's office along with any supporting documents.
