City of Emeryville Public Works - 2024 Sustainable Streetscapes Project

  • The 2024 Sustainable Streetscapes construction is moving forward, with major work along the Hollis Street corridor scheduled for completion in Fall 2025.
  • Our contractor, Bay Cities Paving and Grading, is nearing completion of concrete improvements on both sides of Hollis Street. They will continue working in the Powell/Hollis intersection area through the end of October 2025.
  • The project schedule is subject to change due to weather delays and ongoing coordination with utility providers such as PG&E, Zayo Telecommunications, and EBMUD to resolve any service conflicts. We appreciate your patience as we navigate these complexities.

PG&E - Shellmound Street Gas Main Project

  • PG&E continues its gas facility upgrade along Shellmound Street between Ohlone Way and Powell Street.
  • Construction is scheduled to be completed in November 2025.
  • Daytime traffic will be impacted along the project limits between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.; you can expect delays traveling through the area so please plan accordingly.

EBMUD - North Sewer Interceptor Pipeline Rehabilitation Project (near I-80 EB Powell Street on and off ramps)

  • EBMUD is rehabilitating a 2,500-foot segment of its North Interceptor sewer pipeline in Emeryville, along with five maintenance holes.
  • Project area is near the I-80 on and off ramps at Powell Street from 64th Street and La Coste Street to behind the Powell Street Plaza.
  • The interceptor is a large-diameter pipeline that collects sewage from several East Bay city collection systems (including Emeryville's) and conveys it to EBMUD’s main wastewater treatment plant near the Bay Bridge maze.
  • Construction is scheduled to continue through Late 2025, with weekday work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., plus some night and weekend activity.
  • Expect lane closures on westbound I-580 ramps at Powell Street, periodic Powell Street and La Coste Street closures, and traffic impacts through Late 2025.

EBMUD - Vallejo Street Cluster

  • Work on Vallejo Street (55th St to 59th St) and 59th Street (Hollis St to Vallejo St)
  • EBMUD is rehabilitating a water main, 10 connections, 3 hydrants, and 70 services transfers.
  • Construction is scheduled for October 2025 through Late 2025, with weekday work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Phase 3 - Zayo Fiber (53rd Street)

  • Phase 3 - Zayo Fiber is building out 115' of new new conduit to remove, relocate and splice fiber optic cable at Hollis St. and 53rd St.
  • Work is being phased and coordinated with the City's Sustainable Streetscapes Project as they have overlapping project work areas.
  • Construction is scheduled to be complete in October 2025.

Oxford Properties (5959 and 6201 Shellmound Street)

  • Building renovations of Sweet Greens and Upside Foods.
  • Traffic Control for equipment and material deliveries.
  • Construction is scheduled to be complete in May 2026.
