Construction Progress Update: January 2026
Work Continues into 2026
Following weather delays around the Christmas and New Year holidays, a clear and dry weather pattern in January has allowed our contractor (Bay Cities Paving and Grading) to resume work on the Sustainable Streetscapes project. Crews are taking advantage of the clear weather to advance several remaining items along the Hollis Street corridor and other project areas. Miscellaneous concrete work and the critical task of adjusting utility covers to the new pavement height will continue through the end of the month.
Upcoming Schedule & Future Work
With the asphalt paving finished, the final steps in the roadway construction are the installation of five new concrete bus pads and the final roadway striping.
-
January 5th - 23rd (Concrete Bus Pads): Depending on clear weather windows, the contractor will begin constructing five new concrete bus pads and install the final striping along the corridor. The installation and curing process will take multiple days for each location and will require traffic control lane shifts.
-
Week of January 20th: Crews will be performing concrete curb repairs and painting curbs throughout Hollis Street.
-
Week of January 26th: Work will focus on concrete improvements near the 53rd Street intersection. Where possible, crews will also begin installing permanent crosswalk markings. During this week and into early February, the paving contractor will also be completing punch-list corrections and pavement repairs, starting on the southerly side streets and moving to the main line of Hollis Street.
-
Week of February 2nd: The contractor is scheduled to install new asphalt speed humps at the Greenway crossings of 65th Street, 66th Street, and 67th Street. Final Striping on Hollis will continue as weather allows through February.

Project Highlights
Hollis Street Corridor Improvements
This phase of construction includes new transit and pedestrian safety improvements with the installation of concrete bus pads and intersection bulb-outs to make crossing the street safer for everyone.
As part of this work, we are installing Green Infrastructure stormwater planters in strategic locations. These planters will help manage stormwater runoff, improve water quality, and beautify the corridor.
Citywide Safety & Accessibility Upgrades
-
Solar Lights at Transit Stops: To improve safety and visibility, new solar-powered lighting will be installed at viable bus stop locations.
-
New Benches at the Marina: New benches are scheduled to be installed at the Marina for public enjoyment.
Landscaping and Public Art
There will be landscaping provided in all green infrastructure planters, as well as at the planters being installed at the Powell Street Plaza area.

-
Shellmound Street Improvements: A Class IV bikeway was constructed between 62nd and 65th Streets, and all pavement repairs are fully completed.
-
Citywide Bike Racks: Over 100 new bike racks were recently installed across key locations in the city, helping to fulfill the community's need for secure bicycle parking.
Thank you Measure B/BB/VRF Funding!
This project is partially funded by Measure B/BB/VRF Funding from the Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC)!
Each year, the City of Emeryville receives approximately:
- $500,000 in Measure BB funding to improve and maintain our local streets and roads,
- $50,000 in Measure BB funding to construct and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities,
- $60,000 in Measure BB funding for paratransit assistance to aid in the mobility of seniors and persons with impairments,
- $45,000 in Vehicle Registration Fee funding to reduce congestion and vehicle pollution.
Preventive maintenance of streets is required on a regular basis to extend the life of streets and to provide a quality riding surface for all modes of travel. The Capital Improvement Program includes funding for ongoing street maintenance through the City's Sustainable Streetscapes projects.
