Program Description

The City of Emeryville awards monies to programs or specific community projects that improve the quality of life and build civic pride in Emeryville. The categories covered by this funding are special events, education programs, or similar activities.

Requirements For Grant Consideration

Organizations or individuals wishing to apply for a Community Grant must comply with the following requirements:

  1. Organization or individual must be located in Emeryville, or the activity for which the request is being made must occur in Emeryville.
  2. Program or project must directly benefit the Emeryville community and provide long-term community benefit.
  3. Organization or individual must demonstrate support through a letter from the appropriate entity for the program or project. Examples include, if your program will benefit the afterschool program, then a letter of support would need to be obtained from the Youth Services Supervisor with the City of Emeryville. If your program will be during the school day, a letter of support would need to be obtained from the
  4. Organization or individual applying are not required to be a non-profit or be sponsored by a non-profit fiscal agent, this is new to the 2024 process. A workshop will be held on February 8, 2024, at 10am, at City Hall to learn more about the benefits of having a fiscal agent and other questions regarding the application and process.
  5. Provide insurance indemnifying the City from damages of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate for bodily injury, personal injury and property damage, including without limitation, blanket contractual liability for the duration of the Contract (how to get these policies will be discussed at the Feb 8 workshop) If you have questions regarding these policies and the cost of such policies please come.

Required Documents For Application

Applicants must download, complete, and attach the following documents through the online application portal:

  1. Program/Event Support Letter(PDF, 54KB) (SAMPLE)
    You must include a letter of support from the appropriate entity confirming the program or event is supported and welcomed. Please see Program/Event Support Contacts Section for the appropriate person to reach out to.


  2. Proposed Budget Worksheet(XLSX, 40KB) (XLSX, 40KB)
    A detailed breakdown of anticipated expenses and funding needs.
    • Funding requests are capped at $10,000 per application
    • Each program or project requires a separate application
  3. Insurance Affidavit(PDF, 621KB) (PDF, 621KB)
    Shows that you understand the requirements for insurance upon grant approval. 
    • The Certificate of Insurance AND Endorsement Page are not required to apply. You will be given more information if your grant application is approved.

Selection Process

  • Selection Committee Review - March 2026 - Date TBA
  • All complete grant applications will be invited to share a 3-minute presentation to the subcommittee for their review and consideration to be recommended for funding.
  • Recommendations will be brought to City Council for final approval in April 2026.

Required Documentation Upon Grant Approval

Please note: The required documentation is submitted separately after City Council approval.

  • W-9
  • Emeryville Business License 
    Required for the applicant or fiscal sponsor.
  • Insurance Certificate
    Name must match the name on the application
  • $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate coverage
  • Must submit BOTH Certificate of Insurance AND Endorsement Page
  • Endorsement page must list the City as additionally insured with the following language:
    “The City, its officials, employees, agents and authorized volunteers”.

    Please note: Other additionally insured may be required based on the location of your event or program.
