Request a Curb Color

redcurb (1).png

The City of Emeryville Public Works Department reviews requests for new or modified colored curb zones within the public right-of-way.

Color curbs help improve traffic operations, increase safety, support business loading needs, and manage short-term parking. Because curb space is a public resource, all requests are evaluated based on engineering standards, traffic conditions, and the overall public benefit.

Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.

Types of Color Curbs

Red Curb - No Parking

Red curbs prohibit parking at all times. They are generally installed to improve visibility, maintain safe intersections, provide emergency access, or address other traffic safety concerns.

Yellow Curb - Commercial Loading

Yellow curbs are reserved for active loading and unloading by commercial vehicles during posted hours. These zones are typically considered where businesses regularly receive deliveries that cannot reasonably occur from private loading areas.

Green Curb - Limited Duration Parking

Green curbs provide short-term parking (typically 10 minutes unless otherwise posted). These spaces encourage turnover near businesses and services where customers make quick visits.

White Curb - Passenger Loading

White curbs are designated for passenger loading and unloading only. They are commonly used near schools, medical facilities, hotels, passenger pick-up locations, and similar uses.

Blue Curb - Accessible Parking

Requests for accessible (blue) curb spaces follow a separate application process. You can find the form here: Blue Parking Zone Request Form
