The Journey: From Vision to Community Commitment
City Council Direction:
Inspired by similar efforts in San Francisco and across California, the Emeryville City Council initiated the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights as a policy statement to reinforce the city’s commitment to parks, nature, and family-friendly values. The Council referred the concept to the Parks and Recreation Committee for community input and recommendations, ensuring legal and local alignment
Parks and Recreation Committee Approval:
The Parks and Recreation Committee engaged community members, educators, and nature advocates to review and customize the Bill of Rights for Emeryville. Through presentations, public feedback, and collaborative meetings, the committee shaped
ECOBR to reflect local priorities and aspirations. After thorough review, the committee recommended the Bill of Rights for Council adoption, cementing it as both an aspirational vision and a practical guide for city programs and policies
Community Impact:
Emeryville Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights is now a guiding document for city staff, community organizations, and residents. It shapes recreation programs, park enhancements, and nature-based activities, ensuring that every child’s outdoor experience is meaningful, accessible, and joyful
