A Message From City Manager LaTanya Bellow: Engage Emeryville
Published on July 01, 2026
Dear Emeryville Community,
The City of Emeryville is beginning an important community conversation about how we maintain the quality of life and core services our residents, businesses, workers, and visitors rely on every day.
For more than four decades, Emeryville’s business license tax structure has remained largely unchanged. As our local economy has evolved, the City is now reviewing this 42-year-old business license tax ordinance to ensure it reflects today’s business environment, supports long-term financial sustainability, and provides a fair approach for businesses of all sizes.
This effort is part of Engage Emeryville; the City’s community engagement process focused on maintaining core services and planning responsibly for the future. In a recent community survey, residents identified several important priorities, including keeping parks and playgrounds safe and clean, repairing potholes and maintaining streets, maintaining 911 emergency response, improving crime prevention, and supporting senior and youth services.
The City is committed to doing this work thoughtfully and responsibly. We are engaging business stakeholders, small business owners, residents, and the broader community to review the current business license ordinance and consider updates that don't burden howmeowners and small businesses while ensuring large businesses pay their fair share.
Your voice is important. Community input will help inform future budget and service decisions as the City works to preserve Emeryville’s quality of life and continue delivering the services our community expects and deserves.
