Ethnographic

Refers to writings of people who personally observed and described native cultures. For Native Californians, many ethnographic writings were made by European explorers and priests in the 1700s. Often these are the only source available about the artifacts and practices of a native group. The ethnographic period refers to the time before contact with Europeans changed the practices of native groups
