Code Enforcement & Community Preservation
Overview
The Code Enforcement Division of the City of Emeryville works to ensure that residential and commercial properties throughout the city are maintained in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition. Our goal is to protect the health, safety, and quality of life for all residents, businesses and visitors by enforcing the Emeryville Municipal Code, housing, and property maintenance codes.
What We Do
Code Enforcement is responsible for investigating complaints and addressing violations related to:
- Substandard housing and unsafe living conditions
- Property maintenance issues (e.g., mold, leaks, broken windows)
- Vacant or abandoned structures
- Overgrown vegetation and public nuisances
- Graffiti
- Tobacco Retail License enforcement
- Smoking Pollution enforcement
- Zoning violations
Please note: Complaints regarding illegal construction or unpermitted work (such as unauthorized remodeling, electrical, or plumbing work) should be reported to the Building Inspection request line at (510) 596-4315

The booklet, in both English and Spanish versions, describes the health risks that may result from exposure to dampness and/or mold in buildings.
