The National Weather Service forecast for the Bay Area indicates periods of moderate to heavy rain, very strong winds, and the potential for severe thunderstorms beginning this evening and continuing through Thursday night.

Light rain continues through this afternoon, with moderate to heavy rain returning Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Winds will be very hazardous and impactful Tuesday through early Friday, with gusts strong enough to cause downed trees and power outages. There is also a slight chance of severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts from late Tuesday through Thursday, with the potential to continue into Friday.

Residents should monitor forecasts closely and be prepared to take action, especially those in areas prone to localized flooding.

Resources & Safety Tips:

  • Monitor power outages via the PG&E outage center.
  • Call 9-1-1 if you come across a downed tree or live wires; do not attempt to move any wires from the roadway or your property.
  • Remove accumulated leaves or debris from storm drains on your street if you can do so safely.
  • Report blocked storm drains to the Department of Public Works via online form SeeClickFix | Submit a request
  • If you must drive, do so with caution and watch for flooded areas.
  • Deploy sandbags to deflect runoff from areas of your property that have been prone to flooding. If possible, rainwater should be redirected to a watercourse or gully. If you need sand and sandbags to protect your property, the City maintains a self-service station at 5890 Christie Avenue near 59th Street
