Public Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Committee
Notice is hereby given that there are 2 unscheduled vacancies on the Parks and Recreation Committee, serving the remainder of terms that expire December 31, 2014 due to the resignation of Karena Doan and Lauren Westreich, effective May 22, 2014.

Unscheduled vacancies by resignation of the following incumbents:
  • Karena Doan (resident) Term Expires: December 31, 2014
  • Lauren Westreich (dog owner) Term Expires: December 31, 2014
Application Due Date
Applications are due by Wednesday, July 9, 2014, no later than 5 p.m.

Appointments will be scheduled to be made at the September 2, 2014 regular Emeryville City Council meeting.

Committee Responsibilities
The Parks and Recreation Committee makes recommendations to the City Council on matters relating to:
  • City's recreation programs, cultural events and activities
  • Public use of parks
  • Development of new parks, and enhancements to existing parks and recreation facilities as outlined in the Park and Recreation Strategic Plan
Committee Membership
The committee consists of 9 members who are appointed by the Emeryville City Council and serve 2 year terms. Membership is comprised of the following:
  • 1 nonvoting council member liaison
  • 1 nonvoting Emery Unified School District (EUSD)-selected member
  • 1 Planning Commission member
  • 1 elder community (resident aged 50 plus or Emeryville Senior Center member) selected by the Commission on Aging
  • 1 youth representative (EUSD student or Recreation Department Program participant)
  • 2 Emeryville residents
  • 1 business community representative
  • 1 dog owner
Committee Meetings
The committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Emeryville Recreation Center located at:

Interested applicants are highly encouraged to attend the Wednesday, July 16, 2014 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting. The committee will be interviewing applicants on that date and may choose to make a recommendation regarding the appointment to the City Council.
