Program for Seismic Retrofit for Wood-Framed Dwellings
The City of Emeryville has established a program to encourage owners of one- and two-family, wood-framed residential structures to seismically upgrade their properties. Simple, easy-to-understand plans and a pamphlet explaining the retrofit measures are available for a nominal fee through the Building Division, 510-596-4310.

Pamphlet / Package
Emeryville property owners may purchase the pamphlet and a drawing that will help them to install simple seismic retrofit measures to their buildings. This drawing may be used by a licensed contractor or by a skilled homeowner who wishes to take out an owner / builder permit. Having prepared drawings will save the owner the cost of hiring an architect or engineer. This package can only be used for one-and two-story, wood-framed structures.

Plans and Fees
The permit applicant needs to provide a basic foundation plan of the structure to be retrofitted. The space for this is provided right on the drawing. Once the foundation plan is added, the prepared drawing can be approved over the counter. The minimum permit fee of $110 will be charged for projects using the prepared plan. The cost of the plan package is $25.
