The Signs of the Times installation has graced Emeryville’s utility boxes since 2004, when artist Seyed Alavi worked with local Emery High kids to conceptualize the first designs. The installation received a second life when Alavi was contracted to install twenty new designs and to rotate five existing designs to new locations throughout the city. The map below shows the locations of the 25 installations – keep an eye out for them as you walk, bike, or drive around our city! Another 20 designs have been archived for use on new boxes or to rotate though the existing boxes. Four new boxes are anticipated in 2019-2020. See archived images here
